A2 (42 x 59.5 cm) acrylic on board

by Eldest Sonshine, age 15

My dear parents very kindly donated to us a few unwanted prints in frames for Max to paint. This painting is the result of the transformation of one of them. As you can see it has a built-in border. I think this must have been why Max started with the series of concentric rectangles to fill the canvas.

I had no idea (as is usually the case!) how the artwork was going to end up and this incredible painting is really like nothing he's ever painted before. This is Max's first figurative painting and I think it's just extraordinary! It has to me an Alan Lee, faeries and druids-type feel to it.

She appears to be jumping over the tangle of brambles at her feet.

I love the warm clay coloured tones in the background, the blends of earthy greens and that glowing arc of light above and around.

It's just amazing.
