Brushed silvery-grey wooden frame with dark blue mount (64 x 54 cm) acrylic on board

Max often looks through my photos. Usually he likes looking at photos of his immediate family, but sometimes he looks through what I labelled my 'Inspiration' folder. This is full of photos I've taken (and somem by Max) usually of flora and fauna, landscapes, pretty skies, that kind of thing. Generally it's there as my resource for my continuous line drawings but sometimes Max likes to paint from photos he sees in there too. On this day, Max was browsing the images and said to me he wanted to paint one of my photos of pink roses against a wall.
He's not asked for my help for his art for years, but on this occassion he wanted me to help him with the roses. He was really determined to paint them and wanted to get the right. We looked through the image together and I showed him how the flower was made up on petals and we had a go at practicing the petal shapes before painting them onto the board. He got the idea pretty quickly (smart chap!) and he slowly built up the petals with some help with mixing the shades of pink as well.
He also didn't know how to do the bricks so I drew in the lines of the brickwork for him to go over in white and dark red crayon.
The result is so charming isn't it? I was so proud of him for his effort and patience and he is so pleased with the result.
